Syms Covington, assistant to noted 19th century naturalist Charles Darwin during and after his important Beagle voyage, played an integral role in the history and development of the local region after his 1846 arrival in Pambula. He took up land, establishing businesses including the Forest Oak Inn and a general store, and occupied important public positions as postmaster, on the Bench of Magistrates and the Pambula National School Board.
The Covington display includes several treasures including his writing box, hand mirror and a pair of goblets.
